5 Tips On Selecting The Right Bed For Your Toddler
Beds For Toddler – Tips On Selecting A Right Bed
Your sweet, little baby has gotten too big for his or her crib. It is so important that you move your child from his/her crib into a toddler bed at the right time. This is a critical time that can get your child in the habit of sleeping in his or her own bed for the rest of his or her life. Selecting the right bed for your toddler can be a challenging decision. Here are some things to keep in mind when trying to find the best bed for your toddler.
1. Price. Before you even begin to look at beds, sit down and determine a price range. Toddler beds can range from $100 to $500 and beyond. Keep in mind that your child might not be in this bed for very long. Most times, toddler beds are simply transitional beds. For the most part, your toddler will be in this bed long enough to develop his or her sleeping patterns in a “big boy” or “big girl” bed.
2. Features. Believe it or not, toddler beds come with a variety of different features. Decide what features you want a head of time. Do you want or need side rails? Does the bed need to be low to the ground? Toddler beds also can come with built-in bookshelves or a decorative and fun headboard. Go ahead and choose what material you want the bed to be made from too. Toddler beds can be made out of plastic, metal tubing or wood. Choosing what features you want can make your shopping experience a lot easier.
3. Space. It is never good to buy a piece of furniture that is way too big for the space you have. Measure the area before you decide on a bed.
Take these measurements with you to the store so you can be sure to get a bed that is just right for the space you have to put it.
4. Where. There are so many places that sell toddler beds. You can get toddler beds at children specialty stores, furniture stores, consignment stores, the Internet, etc. You probably won’t be able to find a $100 bed at a children specialty store. Keep your budget in mind when deciding what stores to shop from. You can also order a custom made bed over the Internet. For instance, Rocky Mountain Mattress offers a special service that allows you to design a bed just for your toddler. These beds are safe, organic and inexpensive. If you can’t find what you want in the stores, trying going online.
5. Ask you child. This is one of the most important steps. Once you have narrowed down your search for the perfect toddler bed, ask you child what he or she prefers. This will make them feel like they were part of the decision making process. It will also get them excited about moving to a big boy or big girl bed.
These are helpful ways to help you find the right bed for your toddler. Moving your child from a crib to a toddler bed can be difficult. Follow these suggestions to make the transition as painless and easy as possible.
We just found out that Rocky Mountain Mattress can now custom make beds for toddlers and infants now that are safe and organic.
6 Tips For Choosing A Good Bunk Bed and Loft Bed
How to Choose Good Bunk Beds and Loft Beds
Bunk beds and loft beds are extremely popular, especially for people who want to utilize small spaces. Even if you only have one child, bunk beds and loft beds are great for sleep-overs. Multi child rooms tend to use bunks beds often. When I was growing up, we had four girls sleeping on one bunk bed. The bottom bunk was a double size mattress and the top bunk was a twin size mattress. It worked great because all four of us girls had to share one room.
It seems as though every kid wants a bunk bed or a loft bed. But, you probably don’t know a ton of information about either bed. In order to buy a good quality bed that is going to last, you need to know your stuff. Everyone knows that children are hard on things. That is why it is so important that you buy a solid and sturdy bunk bed or loft bed. Here are some helpful tips you can use when you go to buy your bunk bed or loft bed.
1. Sit on it. Sit on the bottom bunk. Make sure that the bottom bunk can hold your weight. Chances are, if it can’t hold your weight, it isn’t sturdy enough. You also need to make sure that your head can clear the top bunk easily. Anyone who is going to use this bed needs to have enough room.
2. Shake it. Try shaking the bunk bed. Shake the bed as hard as you can. You want to check to make sure the bed can maintain stability while being rocked. Your children will probably be pretty rambunctious on this bed, so you want to double check to see if it is sturdy.
3. Guard rails. Your bunk bed or loft bed is going to have guard rails. Usually, these rails are on the top bed only. Make sure they run all the way around the bed. Check them to see if they are loose too. Don’t let your child fall off of the top bunk just because you were careless and didn’t check.
4. Support. You’ll want to make sure that there are support bars under each bed. These bars will offer your mattresses the only support it will get. Check to see if the slats are too far apart. If the slats are too far apart, it may not provide enough support and your mattress could wear out rather quickly.
5. Edges and Corners. Most likely, you are purchasing this bunk bed or loft bed for your children. Make sure that every edge and corner is well rounded, smooth and neat. Sharp edges and corners can cause serious injury to your child and his or her friends.
6. The Ladder. Every bunk bed and loft bed comes with a ladder. How else are you supposed to get to the top? Double check and make sure the ladder is sturdy. It shouldn’t be loose at all either.
When you go to buy a bunk bed or loft bed, use your common sense. Take a good look at the bed you are considering and make sure that everything is tight, secure and, most importantly, safe. You can be sure to buy a good quality bunk bed or left bed that can endure your children.

You Don’t Wanna Know Whats Hidden In Your Mattress
Did you know that your mattress or pillow could be the home of millions of dust mites or several bed bugs? House dust mites are microscopic bugs that live on dead skin cells. Although they don’t carry diseases, they can be harmful to people with asthma or others who are allergic to dust mite feces. The American College of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology say that 10 percent of Americans are allergic to dust mites. Bed bugs are not microscopic, but can hide in many places. Bedbugs feed off of the blood of warm blooded animals. They inject their saliva into the skin of the host while they feed. They can remain unnoticed for long periods of time due to their flat shaped body.
Dust mites and bed bugs aren’t the only things you can find in your pillow or mattress. Many mattresses have seen better days. Animals or small children have all usually had an accident on a pillow or mattress. Rather than replacing the product completely, many people simple clean up the mess. Mattresses are also the victim of flu season and end up collecting the “effects.” (if you know what I mean).
Have I convinced you to use a protective cover yet?
Protective mattress covers are extremely inexpensive and can help your pillows and mattresses last longer. The covers will increase the life of your mattresses drastically. You will also get a better night’s sleep because you won’t have to worry about the “creatures” living in your pillow and mattress. These covers are dust-mite and bedbug proof. You will also be preventing common allergens from entering into your bed. You can also wash the cover and use it for years to come.
Don’t waste your time worrying about bedbugs and dust mites. Breathe better and sleep more peacefully on a protective cover. These covers will benefit your sleep and your health.

Improving Your Home, Quieting Noisy Water Pipes
Water pipes, particularly in older homes, tend to make a variety of different noises that can sometimes be silenced by a little maintenance before major repair becomes necessary. Creaks, rattles, whistles and bangs all have legitimate causes behind them that you may be able to eliminate yourself.
Creaking is caused by expansion and contraction of your pipes due to hot and cold water flow. Insulating your pipes or widening the gaps that they need to run through can prevent this. Rattling is due to loose pipes which can be tightened up where they connect or hung with a more stable mounting. Whistling means that you may need a new valve or washer in one of your fixtures and banging is caused by air pockets which can be removed by shutting your water off and opening all your faucets to release trapped air pockets. You can try any of these preventative measures on your own or call a plumber to assist you.

Artists That Use Mattresses In Their Artwork
I got asked this question the other day – Are there any artists that use mattresses in their artwork? I thought it was interesting enough that I would research a little, and here ya go:
Imagine anything inspired by a mattress. Imagine a museum inspired by mattresses. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is home to the Mattress Factory. The museum houses artists from around the world. The Mattress Factory artists live on site and provide a unique atmosphere to the museum.
The museum houses exhibits called installations. These installations are room sized and work to engage all of the senses. The Mattress Factory gets it’s name from it’s location. It is located in Pittsburgh’s North Side in two old mattress factories. The museum encourages its visitors to make connections between the art and their everyday lives.
Since its opening in 1977, the Mattress Factory has become a unique experience to all involved. It is a huge honor for artists to be invited to live there. The artists at the museum help facilitate a learning environment for students as well. Students and visitors can take a 90 minute guided tour through each installation in the museum. At the end of the tour, the students and visitors are invited to create their own art through hands-on experimentation.
Imagine living in an environment where you are encouraged to produce creativity in an old Mattress Factory. Some artists have specifically used the history of the old factory in their artwork. Who knew a mattress or a mattress factory could facilitate so much creativity.
Here is an interesting mattress that some would consider “art”, but I just think its interesting!
Turn Your Old Nasty Bed Into A New One By Doing One Thing
I wish I could tell you that you could do it with a magic want like on Harry Potter, but it is pretty simple to turn your old mattress into a new one by getting a mattress topper. There are many companies offering memory foam and natural latex toppers, but there is none that compares to the price, quality and customer service of Rocky Mountain Mattress.
I had a mattress that was about 6 years old. An old nasty twin size that I have had since college. I am to cheap to purchase a new mattress, so I decided to upgrade my existing mattress with a memory foam mattress topper by Rocky Mountain Mattress. I can’t believe how it feels like I am sleeping on a new mattress, knowing my mattress is 6 years old. I even have had my friends lay on the bed and tell me if it feels like I got a new mattress, and they agree it does.
The ladies (or I should say – my lady) appreciates that I got the mattress topper too. Since its only a twin size already we need absolute comfort just so we don’t go crazy! Thanks Rocky Mountain Mattress for having a million dollar solution for a guy on a no dollar budget!
